Problem #1: iMessage Group Chat Not Working
You try to send a message to more than one person on iOS 8, but it will only send as a text message. All the people in the group use iMessage, and you can send individual iMessages to each person without a problem, but once you add more than one person to a message it changes to SMS.
The Fix: Delete the old group conversation and begin a new one with the same people and it will send as iMessage
Problem #2: iMessage won’t use phone number to send messages. The phone number option is greyed out.
Ever since upgrading to iOS 8 you can’t seem to send iMessages using your phone number. In the settings, your phone number appears but it is greyed out and can’t be selected or activated. As a result all iMessages are being sent by email or iCloud ID alone.
The Fix: Turn both iMessage and Facetime off in the Settings Menu. Then in Settings go to General, scroll down to Reset then select “Reset Your Network Settings.” Once everything has reset, make sure you are connected to Wi-fi. Reactivate iMessage and Facetime. You should now be able to select your phone number as an iMessage sending option.
Problem #3: iOS 8 iMessage not receiving messages from a member of a group not using iMessages/iPhone
You have a friend or two in the group message who aren’t iPhone or iMessage users and now, anytime you send a group message, they aren’t included and you aren’t receiving messages back from them either.
The Fix: Go into the Settings App and then go to Messages. Inside messages, make sure group messaging is enabled.
Problem #4: iMessage And Facetime won’t activate
Your iMessage & FaceTime won't work after you updated to iOS 8. It just says “waiting to activate.”
Problem #5: iMessage search and Spotlight message search not working since iOS 8 update
No fix is available yet for this issue.
Problem #6: Since upgrading to iOS 8 you are unable to send SMS messages at all.
No fix has yet been offered, but resetting Network settings may remedy.
Problem #7: Pictures inside of iOS 8 iMessage don’t work right
Someone sends you a picture inside of iMessage (they are running iOS 7) and it shows unknown attachment type.
