We all know that images attract traffic and are paramount to the success of a blog. But what are the good practices? Is it possible to use images found on the web? Does the image have to be resized? and how images can be used to increase traffic?
These are the questions I will try to answer in this post.

' Royalty free' does not mean that you can do whatever you wish with images downloaded from these sites. Most probably there are restrictions to usage. It is therefore highly recommended to read the license or the condition of usage before downloading the image. Even if the image is 'royalty free', it is good practice to send a message to the author to thank him and inform him that you intend to use one of his work in a non commercial web site. Do not forget to do it! This way you evince goodwill and defuse any risk of conflict.
A last piece of advice: keep track of the source of the images you use on your blog. You may have to answer questions about images the day you want to sell or transfer your blog...
Another thing that you can do to improve your position with search engines, is to give an intelligible filename to your image before inserting it in Blogger. In the case of the present post, the name I gave to the image file before adding it to the post, is: 'images-the-good-pratices.jpg'. It is good practice to use hyphens to delimit words in filenames with a view to improve processing by search engines.

2 - Does The Image Have To Be Resized?
Obviously. Do not let Blogger or the user's browser resize your image. Do it yourself before inserting the image in the post and select the option: 'original size' for the display of the image. In this post for instance, the image has a size of 350pixels * 250pixels and it is displayed on your browser with its 'source' size. The original image I selected for the post was far larger, I had to crop it and resize it using Microsoft Office Picture Manager.3 - What Can Be Done From SOE Point Of View?
Add title and alternate texts to your image. If you are working with Blogger, use 'properties' to add title and alternate texts to your image.
